Red Cross Welcome Home Kits with LRE Volunteers
December 8, 2025

LRE was proud to join the Red Cross North Texas Region in supporting their Welcome Home Kit Building initiative.
Two LRE volunteers, Amanda Koonjbeharry of Public Affairs, and Brittainny Jones of Business Process Optimization, joined the Red Cross in assembling Welcome Home Kits for individuals transitioning into new housing after experiencing hardship. Each kit was designed by the Red Cross to provide comfort and a sense of stability by including household items like bedding and kitchenware to help transform empty spaces into places of healing and hope.
“Volunteering with the Red Cross was an eye-opening experience,” noted LRE’s Amanda Koonjbeharry. “As I was packing the kits, I kept thinking about the people who would eventually open them and what that moment might feel like – walking into a new space after loss or disruption. It made me grateful for the things I often take for granted, like having clean linens, cooking utensils, and a place to call home. I felt honored to be a small part of helping someone start again and truly moved by the care and heart the Red Cross brings to the families they serve.”
The American Red Cross of North Texas serves a population of over 9 million people across 121 Texas counties in some of the state’s most geographically and weather-diverse landscapes.
Volunteers from LRE joined forces with Red Cross employees and other partners including Rent-A-Center, Charles Schwab, and DHL.
“Together, we assembled more than 500 “welcome home” kits to support families transitioning into new housing after losing their homes to disaster,” noted Debi Amon,
Director, Organizational Partnerships forthe North Texas Region of the American Red Cross. “This pilot program marks the beginning of an initiative we are excited to continue, and we’re deeply grateful for LRE’s support. Thank you!”“Working alongside other Red Cross volunteers to build Welcome Home Kits was a humbling experience,” added Brittainny Jones. “Knowing that our teams helped prepare over 560 kits to support families who may be displaced by a natural disaster truly meant something. For me, serving is a gift, and I treated this moment with the care and intention it deserved. I am grateful to be part of something meaningful that allows me to show up for people in real ways when they need it most.”
