Neighbor Benefit Grants
Energy projects like Henkle Branch Solar generate significant benefits for the entire community – hundreds of new construction jobs, millions of dollars in new tax revenue, additional funding to schools and local services, and continued good land stewardship practices like biodiversification and sheep grazing, all while maintaining the agricultural zoning and much of the rural character of the land.
In addition to fulfilling our company-wide commitment to responsible development, construction, and operational practices, we’re striving to do more for our project communities.
That’s why we are introducing the Neighbor Benefit Grant (NBG) program. This program will provide direct benefits to the project’s nearby neighbors – even if they aren’t hosting equipment on their property.
Recipients can use their grant for things like rooftop solar panels to bring the benefits of renewable energy directly into their homes, energy-efficiency improvements to lower their energy costs, or directly offsetting their monthly utility costs.
Details of Neighbor Benefit Grants
Henkle Branch Solar is excited to offer Neighbor Benefit Grants (NBGs) to neighbors who live near the project but are not participating in the project through a lease agreement. This grant program is completely voluntary and requires no obligation from recipients.
• Henkle Branch Solar is offering neighbors who reside within 1,000 feet of the project boundary an NBG payment of $25,000.
• 10% of the grant will be paid within 60 days of Neighbors’ Benefit Grant approval.
• The remaining 90% will be paid within 60 days of the start of construction.
• Grant recipients are still free to raise any questions or concerns about the project at any time.
• Homeowners and renters are eligible.
Regardless of whether neighbors choose to participate in the NBG program, Henkle Branch Solar is committed to transparency and being a good community partner through the following actions and best practices:
• Setbacks
• Screening
• Vegetation management
• Attractive agricultural-style fencing
• Drain tile management
• Community open house
• Contributions to local charities, organizations, and/or public services
Applications will be accepted from May 22nd, 2026, through July 31st, 2026.
Community Involvement
The Henkle Branch Solar Project will be a power generation resource for 30 years or more, providing significant economic development and funding for local public services. LRE prioritizes responsibly sourced, U.S.-made components and local labor. The low-cost, emission-free power supply will help meet domestic energy needs.
As a dedicated member of the community, LRE will work hard to be a good neighbor. Our involvement goes beyond economic investment, job creation, and providing emission-free energy. We strive to build lasting partnerships with local government, community organizations, and individual neighbors. Throughout the life of the project, we pride ourselves on being open in our communication and responsive to feedback while maintaining ongoing community investment.
Permitting
The Henkle Branch Solar project will be applying for a Siting Approval Permit (SAP) in mid-summer of 2026. The team at LRE will continue to provide project updates and answer community questions or concerns as the project continues to progress. We are excited to be a new neighbor and partner in Sangamon County.
