LRE’s Mayes County Solar projects recently recognized Safety Week with a combined lunch and raffle event for workers across Oklahoma solar sites.
Mayes County Solar includes three individual projects – Mayes, Salt Branch 1&2 and Huckleberry Solar. During peak construction, more than 1,000 workers were active across combined sites.
In May, LRE partnered with MasTec to host a Safety Week event with lunch and raffles for nearly 400 workers.
“Anytime you have that number of people, there’s the potential for incidents to occur,” said Sr. Safety Manager Jarmain Walton. “It’s important for us to not only reinforce the critical role safety plays on our sites, but to recognize and celebrate the people working safely every day.”
As an example of strong safety performance across projects, Safety Manager JC Casas noted that the Mayes Solar project recently reached 195 working days without a lost-time incident and achieved more than a month of incident-free work.
“There’s been great work by everyone across these projects,” noted JC. “Our focus is always on going home every day in the same condition we came to work. We all have someone or something at home waiting for us. Our message is don’t compromise safety for a short cut. On these sites we are all family, and we all deserve to return home safely every day.
While Huckleberry Solar is nearing completion, the Mayes and Salt Branch projects remain under construction and are expected to begin operations later this year.
MasTec is an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor and an LRE partner.
