Ohio Supreme Court approves Licking County solar project

The Ohio Supreme Court has approved the construction of the Harvey Solar Project, a 350-megawatt solar development on 2,600 acres in Licking County, following challenges from local residents and the Save Hartford Township group.

The court upheld the Ohio Power Siting Board’s 2022 decision, determining the opponents failed to prove any unlawful or unreasonable actions by the board. Developed by Open Road Renewables, then acquired by LRE (Leeward Renewable Energy), the project is expected to power around 350,000 homes, generate $3.15 million in annual property taxes, and create about 300 construction jobs. Construction is slated to begin soon and will take 18 to 24 months, marking a significant step forward for energy security in Ohio.
