Harvey Solar Project Update: May 2026

Hello Neighbor,

The Harvey Solar project continues to advance, and we’re sharing regular updates on project progress. Each month, we’ll highlight key activities underway and provide visibility into how the project is moving forward. Right now, the project is in the design phase, the stage where the engineering and site layout details are being developed in coordination with state and local agencies, along with our internal teams. This month, we’re highlighting a few examples of how Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE) is building community partnerships in Ohio.

Building Strong, Local Partnerships in Ohio

At LRE, being a good neighbor means listening closely, building strong local relationships, and working alongside communities every step of the way. We aim to create projects that support local priorities while helping build a cleaner energy future for Ohio.

Partnering With Ohio State University Students

For a second consecutive year, LRE is partnering with Ohio State University to support a program focused on solving meaningful, real-world business challenges. Students participate as part of the Rapid Innovation for Public Impact course offered by the University’s Batelle Center for Science, Engineering, and Public Policy. By listening to community voices, learning from industry and policy leaders, and participating in a national conference experience, this year’s LRE student team developed a Community Engagement Field Guide. The Guide proposes fresh ideas to incorporate practical, best practices to further shape thoughtful conversations around proposed renewable energy projects. It was a positive learning experience for all involved, and we look forward to continuing these types of unique and valuable partnerships in the future.

The Buzz About Bees

Did you know…May 20th was World Bee Day! According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), honeybees are important for our food supply, pollinating $15 billion worth of crops in the United States each year, including more than 130 types of fruits, nuts, and vegetables. LRE’s Big Plain Solar facility in Madison County, Ohio supports more than 50 beehives and 3 million bees. By working with veteran‑led partners like Frontline Hives and Wind & Sky Apiaries, we have created pollinator‑friendly habitats that support local farms and keep the ecosystem healthy. Check out this story to learn more at LRE proudly supports Frontline Hives.

During the project design phase, LRE evaluates each project for land stewardship opportunities, such as beekeeping, sheep grazing, and pollinator plantings. We’ll share updates about which land stewardship opportunities may be incorporated into the Harvey Solar project as plans are finalized.

Project Timeline

We know projects like this can raise questions, and we’re committed to sharing timely updates and staying connected throughout each step.

Looking ahead:

  • Initial site preparation and early groundwork are expected to begin in summer 2026.
  • Construction is expected to begin in fall 2026 and will take about two years to complete.
  • Operations are targeted to begin in 2028.
